Details matter when building or remodeling
By Greg Jordan

An important thing to consider when building or remodeling a house should be quality not quantity. Careful planning and quality materials can help to make your building endeavor a resounding success. Proper plans and specifications eliminate questions during the construction process and make a huge difference in the future functionality of the various components of your home. Don't skimp on the details, you will regret it later.

No matter whether you are building a custom home or having a tract home built there are certain things to consider as you plan and execute the construction of your dream. Pay attention to details. Small things can make a big difference in the comfort of your home for years to come. When making decisions such as the type of doors or windows to use consider that you will be using these items on a daily basis for many years. Perhaps a better quality window or door unit should be installed to insure future durability and smooth operation. Cabinets are an integral part of every house. In addition to the proper design and efficient flow of a kitchen, future homeowners should consider the materials that are used in the construction of the cabinet. Avoid the use of particle board, as this material contains formaldehyde, which will outgas and create potential health problems for humans and animals. Specify quality hinges for the cabinet doors, the extra money will pay off in the long run. A well informed, quality builder can help to guide couples through these important decisions.

I have touched on a couple of details that should be considered when building or remodeling a home. In future articles I will explore, in more detail, specific aspects of home construction that are often overlooked by individuals who are building for the first time and sometimes forgotten by the more seasoned home purchaser.
