Something about building
By Greg Jordan

A successfully completed remodel or a new house can completely transform a family's life. The opportunity to live in a new or remodeled home, built to your specifications, can be a life changing situation that will manifest positive experiences for yourself and your children. Many times when a family decides to buy a house they drive from sub-division to sub-division looking at big box houses. Many of these homes lack character and don't reflect the family's needs and preferences. Rather than building something that fits their specific needs, they choose instead to change the way they live to accommodate the house they buy. Unfortunately most of us don't know the difference, that's how our parents bought houses. Great news! It doesn't have to be that way, you can build or remodel your home to fit the needs of your family.

Careful and thoughtful planning is the way to accomplish this task of building or remodeling your home to conform to your family's daily needs. It is important to analyze your living habits and preferences. What is your daily routine? Start from the beginning and write down your families daily routines. How could you design a new kitchen or remodel your existing kitchen to make your use of that space more efficient? Think about cabinet space, appliance location, breakfast seating configurations. Consider all of the activities that take place in every specific room on a daily basis. How could I design the laundry room to better accommodate my weekly laundry chores? How large should I build my closets and what kind of built-in cabinets do I want? Do I want cubby holes for shoes and how many clothes bars should I have? All of these things should be taken into consideration in the planning stage, so when the construction process begins, all of the questions have been answered. The use of a skilled designer or architect can be very helpful.

At the end of the process, after all of the careful planning and hard work, you will have created something that you can be proud of, and it will be designed to accommodate your family's busy lifestyle. This is the kind of home that will nurture your family, providing a healthy environment that allows everyone to live happy productive lives.
